Hand Hygiene Solution

What an Infection Costs

Hospitals are increasingly recognizing the role of hand hygiene compliance (HHC) in the reduction of healthcare-acquired infections (HAI) and overall patient safety. According to the Centers for Disease Control, HAIs account for roughly 1.7 million infections and 99,000 deaths, annually. The direct costs associated with HAIs for US hospitals are estimated to be tens of billions of dollars per year.

It is estimated that anywhere from 30-70 percent of HAIs can be prevented by following HHC policies. However, most hospitals estimate that their healthcare workers' compliance rates are below 50%. Furthermore, measuring HHC has traditionally been a manual process consisting of periodic audits and studies which capture just a small portion of potential events with questionable accuracy.

Innovate and Monitor

Up until now, measuring Hand Hygiene Compliance (HHC) has traditionally been a very manual process consisting of periodic audits and studies which capture just a small portion of potential events, and with questionable accuracy.

Halco would like to introduce you to a Hand Washing Compliance System with a cost effective means of automatically monitoring and capturing compliance and non-compliance events 24/7. Automatic reminders can be programmed into the system to proactively alert staff of a non-compliance event to aid in facilitating compliance.

The Solution

  • Battery powered dispenser Monitors for ease of installation
  • Mounts to any dispenser, canister, pump, or sink
  • Can be deployed as stand alone or as part of CenTrak's RTLS
  • Automatically captures a specific caregiver's badge ID
  • Documents entry to and exit from patient care areas

Our system is an easy-to-deploy, enterprise capable solution that observes and reports on hand hygiene compliance 24 hours a day, seven days a week through a dynamic tracking and workflow automation engine that automatically and continuously monitors staff compliance with defined hand hygiene protocols.

The system evaluates hand hygiene activity during (as well as immediately before and after) a patient encounter, notifying them when they have and have not complied with specific protocols. The system also alerts administrators and managers when a caregiver fails to comply with hand hygiene guidelines including the possible threat of contamination or cross contamination with patients. Compliance administrators can use the data collected to run detailed reports that calculate compliance rates, interactions, high traffic areas and levels of hand hygiene supplies.

The system monitors hand hygiene compliance through a combination of small radio-frequency tags worn by staff members, sensors mounted on the ceiling throughout the facility and interface modules attached to disinfectant dispensers.

System Monitoring

  • Room Level or Bed Level Precision
  • Support for Multiple Product Types
  • Mounting Options for Multiple Locations
  • Integration with Varied Dispenser Mechanisms

System Reports

  • Log Report Lists
  • Rate reports that calculate how often individuals and/or groups comply
  • Average reports that can use either numbers, events or time intervals between events
  • Customized reports for department or enterprise-wide needs

Medicare is no longer offering reimbursement for preventable nosocomial infection. This step has been taken to encourage prevention over cure. Medicare does not reimburse hospitals for the treatment of preventable conditions and this includes certain infections acquired at healthcare facilities.
